Things to Do on Mt Hood During the Year

One of the most iconic attractions in Portland Oregon is Mount Hood. Wherever you go in the PDX area it’s hard not to miss Mount Hood because it stands at over 11,000 feet and is considered to be the highest mountain in the state of Oregon.

What most people don’t know is that Mount Hood is also a dormant volcano, it’s also home to a wide variety of ski resorts and summer recreation areas which keep it busy all year long.

Scenic Loop
One of the first things that you should do if you not visit Mount Hood before is take the Mount Hood Scenic Loop. This drive is definitely one of the best in Oregon because, it’ll take you past Hood River and also the Mount Hood National Forest.

There’s nothing better than the scenic loop because you will also pass through quiet villages and plenty of waterfalls along the Columbia Gorge.

Another thing to do when visiting Mount Hood is to go hiking. There are a wide variety of trails in the area including two-day trails, but it’s important to know your endurance level and research the trails properly because there are many to choose from that will take you past Mirror Lake, lost Lake and also Trillium Lake.

Stay at The Timberline Lodge
Last of all, but most important, another cool thing that you can do when visiting Mount Hood is to stay at the Timberline Lodge.

Built-in 1937, the lodge is now designated as a National Historic Landmark.

Despite its age, it has modern amenities and excellent decor which has been preserved over the last 80 years so when you stay here it’s like taking a trip back in time while also being able to enjoy the modern amenities of this area.
