Growing up, I remember going to various open houses around my town with my parents every Sunday. We loved comparing the houses and imagining what it would be like if we moved.

Today I’m especially interested in architects who take seemingly inhabitable spaces and convert them into incredible houses.

One woman bought an 1800s bank and converted it into an incredible home for herself. Another couple took an old Texas county jailhouse and completely revitalized it into a place most anyone would want to live.

Of all of the interesting conversions I have seen while working for LittleThings, this barge might be my new personal favorite — or at least the one I’d most want to move into.

After falling into disrepair and hardly being used for decades, this old barge from 1909 was completely revitalized and converted into an airy, bright, and luxurious houseboat. Of course, I’ve never actually seen a houseboat this nice.

Though, of course, a floating house means that you can call any location your home as long as it has a dock.

This two-bedroom, two-bathroom house almost feels like a floating apartment.

If you didn’t see the outside, you might just think it’s a nautical-themed apartment.

Though it has been modernized, many of its nautical features, such as the waterproof door, remain intact.

It’s not exceptionally large at 1,600 feet, but it feels much larger thanks to its open design.

The bottom level serves as an open plan kitchen, living room, and dining area.

If you were to look at this kitchen alone, one would never guess that it’s in the middle of a formerly trashed up barge.

And up a level are the bedrooms and bathrooms.

The barge was recently on the market for $800,000 — fairly expensive for a two-bedroom house, but cheap for an entire boat of its size.

Of course, docking fees and energy expenses are quite high with a house like this, but imagine the luxury of soaking in that tub in the middle of any sea of your choice.

It can be a single family house or rented out as a vacation space.

If you’ve ever been on a cruise, you know how tight the rooms can be — so why not have your own personal cruise ship?

Personally, I’d love it as a retirement home. I’d love to take off around the world while keeping the comforts of home with me.
