Housewife’s trick dries laundry without dryer – and it’s easy on the environment

When I moved into my first apartment, I was excited that it had a washing machine and I finally had the luxury of doing my laundry whenever I wanted without having to spend time at the laundromat.

But when I was doing my first load of laundry, I realized that there was something missing — I didn’t have a dryer or even a drying rack.

At first, I panicked and thought I’d have an apartment full of wet laundry, but then I remembered a trick I saw my grandmother do when I was little — and my problem was solved!

This old trick also works well if you have to go to the laundromat or you have a laundry room in your building but you want save energy and protect the environment by not using a dryer.

I got the tip from my grandmother, who always used to wash her laundry like this. What you do is simply put your wet laundry in a bag and then put it in the freezer!

This method is called freeze drying and when you take the laundry out of the freezer, you’ll immediately notice that the laundry is dry. And as soon as winter arrives, you can get the same effect by hanging your laundry outside.

This old housewife’s trick is also very environmentally friendly. It works because cold air is very dry and has low humidity. So when you freeze wet laundry, the water in the garment sublimates, or goes straight from ice to gas without passing through the liquid phase as the water goes from a more humid place (your clothes) to a less humid place (the air in your freezer).

After your clothes are dry, just give them a quick ironing and they’ll be fresh and ready to wear again. It’s really smart, and above all, it’s perfectly natural and good for the environment!

You might have already known this trick, but most young people have probably never heard about it. Please share it so that more people discover it!
