Good Samaritans Treat Homeless Citizens To A Special Spa Day

The homeless are the ones too often forgotten. Homeless men, women, and children face the stigma of being called drug addicts and criminals. Yet, so many of the homeless in the United States are veterans, single mothers who have lost their jobs, or simply folk who have fallen onto a string of bad luck. One of the harshest realities the homeless face isn’t the absence of food or shelter — it’s being invisible. How often do you walk by a man or woman with a cardboard sign on the street and don’t think twice? We’ve all done it, perhaps it’s a sign of the times, or maybe we just need to start seeing the homeless differently.

That’s what the kind folks at Prank It FWD are trying to do. For one day, they invited a group of homeless folk to Ascencia Homeless Shelter in Glendale, CA, for an amazing spa day. The men and women were treated to makeovers, new clothes, and a gourmet meal. For one day, the invisible felt like they were finally being seen.

However, it was one veteran’s kind words that summed up the homeless’ heartbreaking truth. “Somebody cares. I’m a Vietnam vet, honorable discharge, and uh,” he says breaking down. “I’m not used to any affection.” It’s hard to believe that someone who served could be left out in the cold, but it happens every day.
