Have you ever been locked out of your house without a spare key? Infuriating, right? There is little else that can be as embarrassing and angering as having to call up a lock smith in the middle of the night to get into your own house.
But after you watch this short video, you’ll learn a trick that can have you back inside in minutes. And if you’re like me, you’re never going to forget it.
It’s easier to make a makeshift spare key than you probably ever suspected. The video below shows that it only takes about 5 minutes and will get you prepared.
To start, simply hold the key over a candle or lighter flame until the metal is blackened.
Then place a piece of scotch tape over the top of the blackened key and rub your finger across it so that the color gets picked up. Make sure you get all the grooves into the tape.
Next stick the piece of tape onto a piece of metal like the aluminum a soda can or a door sign. Then use a pair of scissors to cut out the shape of the key. Now you have a temporary spare key that can actually open up your door.
Check out the video below for even more detailed instructions and to see it working in action.
