Diego Rizzo from Guatemala has managed to snap the most incredible image of a volcano erupting as a meteor shoots over the most beautifully lit up Milky Way in the sky.

His image is so beautiful that it found its way into NASA’s Astronomy Picture of the Day.

Known as Volcan de Fuego, the volcano commonly goes by the name “Volcano of Fire”.

NASA explained: “On the land of the featured image, the Volcano of Fire (Volcán de Fuego) is seen erupting topped by red-hot, wind-blown ash and with streams of glowing lava running down its side.”

The Milky Way can meanwhile be seen above, iridescent in its own beauty, with a meteor making an appearance just below a satellite to the upper right and the most beautiful astronomical features don’t end there.

NASA added: “The planet Jupiter also appears toward the upper left, with the bright star Antares just to its right.”

Mr Rizzo has to travel to Fuego’s sister volcano, Acantenago to snap the incredible image, with much of the land and sky magically captured in a single, 25-second exposure photograph.

The meteor was captured similarly about 30 min earlier with the volcanic eruption being added digitally.
